Due to the extreme weather conditions (rain and snow) in Noord-Holland, and across the country, we have decided to close the school for all pupils tomorrow, Wednesday December 22nd.

As you know on the 27^th October we will host the Annual General Meeting of the Parents’ Association. I would like to stress the importance of the Parents’ Association for the school’s daily routine and strategic development. During my career the Parents’ Association of the ES Bergen has always been a very important partner in all discussions regarding the quality of education provided by the school, the organization of the school and the school development. I hope that you will all be present and will participate proactively in the event presenting new candidates for the election and voting for the new committee as well.

Dear Parents,

In my new function as Deputy Head in the European School of Bergen, I wish you a good start and a successful school year for our pupils. It is a pleasure to be among you and work in Bergen. I have previous experience from the European School system as I worked in the European School of Brussels III as a class teacher and in the European School of Luxembourg II as a Deputy Head. I have enjoyed working in this multicultural and diverse learning community, and I strongly believe it is a unique experience for pupils and staff. The aim of the School is to provide a safe, supportive and challenging environment in order to prepare students for academic, social and personal success. To achieve the above mentioned, close cooperation and regular communication with parents is essential. For the beginning of this school year, you are invited to meet the class teacher of your child as well as the 2nd language teacher according to the following scheme: Nursery: Monday 13.09.10 at 19.00 Primary: Wednesday 15.09.10; different meetings will take place on this day. You will receive today the invitation of the parents’ information evening as well as the detailed time of meeting your child’s teachers. Detailed information will be given to the parents of students without a language section (SWALS) in an information meeting on Tuesday 21.09.10 at 18.00. Parents’ meetings with the teachers of Mother tongue will follow. I am at your disposal to meet with you and discuss, needed. Please call the secretary Mrs Gebhardt (072- 58109150) in order to fix an appointment. It is in our plans that in the future, we shall communicate via e-mails to avoid increased paper consumption. Therefore, I would like to ask you that you give the class teacher of your child your address e-mail. This address will be used by the school for sending only general information documents. It will not be used for sending confidential information concerning you or your children. Dear Parents,                          

Sunday, May 9^th, is Europe Day. To mark this occasion in school on Friday, May 7^th, in the nursery and primary school we are planning special activities with the children.

Dance

On the morning of Friday, May 9^th, at about 9.10 in the playground all nursery and primary pupils will participate in a dance. You are welcome to wait in the playground after dropping off your children to see this.                                                                                             

Flowers

During the morning our pupils will visit local institutions, the village and some private homes to offer flowers to mark Europe day.  

Treats

At the end of the morning we would like to offer children a selection of small treats to enjoy in their classes. We are very grateful to the Parents Association who sponsor the flowers and the treats.

 Bevrijdingsdag

Tomorrow, Wednesday is 5th of May, Liberation Day. Once every 5 years this is a National Holiday. There is no school for your children tomorrow.

“Circumnavigation expedition: global change and the exploration of the biodiversity of the ocean”

The Spanish Semester organizing  committee in the IE Petten is pleased to invite you to the lecture: “Circumnavigation expedition: global change and the exploration of the biodiversity of the ocean”, which will be presented by Mr. Jordi Dachs in the Aula of the European School on Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 at 17:00 hours.  After the lecture, a snack will be served.
 
The lecture will be given in English  and the entrance is free. Only for organizational reasons we kindly request you to inform us if you plan to attend.

“The Malaspina expedition (1789 – 1794), directed by the Spanish naval officer of Napolitan origin Alejandro Malaspina as well as by the naval officer and politician José Bustamante was one of the most daring multidisciplinary scientific projects approved by King Charles III to explore the ocean and distant lands, to corroborate scientific hypothesis of marine wildlife, astronomy and to obtain natural resources.
 
The need to evaluate the impact of Global Change in the ocean and the new technological possibilities available to explore biodiversity mean that, two centuries after the first Malaspina expedition, similar scientific campaigns are planned.  In October 2010, in coincidence with the two hundredth anniversary of the death of Malaspina and the birth of Darwin, a new circumnavigation campaign will start.  During the eight months of the mission, physical, chemical and biological changes of the ocean will be studied.
 
The Malaspina expedition is a milestone in the Spanish oceanography, and will allow to study for the first time many of the environmental processes responsible for the Global Change, at a global scale, in all the oceans.  In addition, a bank of samples will be collected and stored to create a legacy for future generations of scientists.”
 
The lecturer will be Mr. Jordi Dachs, researcher in the Institute of Environmental Diagnosis and Studies of Water, from the High Council of Scientific Research of Spain.

Onze school maakt gedurende 4 jaar (2008-2012) gebruik van de ondersteuning van een Techniek Coach met als doel dat wij over 4 jaar de technieklessen zelfstandig kunnen geven in de groep en de techniek kunnen integreren in andere vakken. De coaching is vooral gericht op het ontwikkelen van een goed gevoel bij het geven van een techniekles. De Techniek Coach is daarbij gericht op het ontwikkelen van zelfstandigheid bij de leerkracht. De techniekles wordt gegeven in alle groepen 5, 6 en 7 In elke groep staan 2 thema’s centraal. Groep 5: -Bewustwording van techniek om ons heen/waar is het van gemaakt? -Een eenvoudige stroomkring. Groep 6: -Verbindingen en bevestigingsmiddelen. -Magnetisme Groep7: -Metalen en constructies. -Elektriciteit. Alle opdrachten voor alle groepen hebben een relatie met:

1. Constructie Demonteren en monteren, van eenvoudig naar complex.

2. Transport en overbrengingen De fiets. Van materiaalherkenning naar energieopwekking, overbrenging en tenlotte repareren.

 3. Productie Materialen en gereedschappen. Van herkennen naar ontwerpen, naar maken, gebruiken en evalueren.

4. Energie Stroomkringen en energiebronnen combineren met constructies van eenvoudig naar complex.

Elke techniekles is opgebouwd uit:

-een theoretisch gedeelte

-een video die past bij het centrale thema van de groep

-een flink aantal doe-opdrachten waarbij de kinderen gebruik maken van een werkboek.

 Dit jaar hebben we het tweede Techniek jaar achter de rug. De kinderen genieten van deze lessen en leren er veel bij. We bedanken de Techniek Coach dan ook van harte en kijken al uit naar het volgende derde jaar.

Dear Parents,

We would like to inform you that the President of the Parent’s Association and the Director of the European school have had several meetings with the Municipality of Bergen on a topic that concerns us all, especially the movement of traffic around and in the vicinity of our school. In June 2009 we addressed our concerns, in a PowerPoint presentation which contained photographs supporting our concerns and those of other organisations close to the school.

We understand that the Municipality of Bergen is willing to make changes to the infrastructure in both “Nessen” and “Churchillaan” There are more meetings planned in 2010. In preparation for this the school community can greatly assist us here by to acting responsibly when leaving their cars in the vicinity of the school and by using the allocated parking areas already set aside and available for parking now. We are aware that there is not enough parking at present and that more is required. This is the objective of our next meeting.

In the meantime we are asking the school community to show their responsibility and contribute towards improving the immediate traffic situation. The bus stop by the roundabout for example is intended for buses only as it is the only safe place where the student can get in or off the bus. This is currently not the case. Please try to avoid parking at the roundabout.

Our objective is to ensure that your children arrive at school in a safe manner and arrive home safely as well. We count on your support to help us make this happen.
