Introduction letter by Mrs. Marousa Gourdi

Dear Parents,

In my new function as Deputy Head in the European School of Bergen, I wish you a good start and a successful school year for our pupils. It is a pleasure to be among you and work in Bergen. I have previous experience from the European School system as I worked in the European School of Brussels III as a class teacher and in the European School of Luxembourg II as a Deputy Head. I have enjoyed working in this multicultural and diverse learning community, and I strongly believe it is a unique experience for pupils and staff. The aim of the School is to provide a safe, supportive and challenging environment in order to prepare students for academic, social and personal success. To achieve the above mentioned, close cooperation and regular communication with parents is essential. For the beginning of this school year, you are invited to meet the class teacher of your child as well as the 2nd language teacher according to the following scheme: Nursery: Monday 13.09.10 at 19.00 Primary: Wednesday 15.09.10; different meetings will take place on this day. You will receive today the invitation of the parents’ information evening as well as the detailed time of meeting your child’s teachers. Detailed information will be given to the parents of students without a language section (SWALS) in an information meeting on Tuesday 21.09.10 at 18.00. Parents’ meetings with the teachers of Mother tongue will follow. I am at your disposal to meet with you and discuss, needed. Please call the secretary Mrs Gebhardt (072- 58109150) in order to fix an appointment. It is in our plans that in the future, we shall communicate via e-mails to avoid increased paper consumption. Therefore, I would like to ask you that you give the class teacher of your child your address e-mail. This address will be used by the school for sending only general information documents. It will not be used for sending confidential information concerning you or your children.
